  1. Find the coordinates of the point at which the perpendicular bisector of the line joining (2, 7) to (10, 3) meets the x-axis.[5]

Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (May/June 2014). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [B1] Mid-point (6, 5) co
  2. [B1] Gradient = – ½ co
  3. [B1] Perp gradient = 2 co
  4. [M1] Eqn y – 5 = 2(x – 6) Must be correct form of Perp
  5. [A1] Sets y to 0, → (3½, 0) co x = 3½ only is ok.
