Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (Oct/Nov 2020). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [M1] 2^(2x+2) / 2^(x-1) = 2^(5x/3) * 2^1 Convert all to powers of 2 – allow one error.
  2. [M1] 2^(x+3) = 2^(5x/3 + 1) Use a^x / a^y and (a^x)^y correctly on their expression. Allow one arithmetic slip.
  3. [M1] x+3 = 5x/3 + 1 Dep on previous M1. Forms linear equation using their powers correctly.
  4. [A1] x = 3
