  1. Find the exact coordinates of the stationary point of the curve with equation y = e^(-½x) (2x + 5).[5]

Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (Oct/Nov 2019). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [*M1] Differentiate using the product rule (Must have u and v correct in a correct formula with du/dx = 2 and dv/dx = -½e^(-½x))
  2. [A1] Obtain correct 2e^(-½x) - ½e^(-½x)(2x+5) (OE)
  3. [DM1] Equate first derivative to zero and solve for x (Solution must come from linear terms)
  4. [A1] Obtain x = -½ only
  5. [A1] Obtain 4e^(¼) or exact equivalent only
