- Find the coordinates of the stationary points of the curve with equation y = 8x / (2x+3) - 6x+5.[5]
Mark scheme
Marking points from the official mark scheme (May/June 2025). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.
- [*M1] Attempt use of quotient rule (or equivalent) to differentiate 8x / (2x+3) or -12x² +15 / (2x+3)
- [A1] Obtain dy/dx = 24/(2x+3)² - 6 OE Allow unsimplified.
- [DM1] Equate first derivative to zero, and attempt solution of a quadratic equation to find two values of x 4x²+12x+5=0
- [A1] Obtain at least one of the stationary points (-5/2, 30) and (-1/2, 6), or both x-values, -5/2 and -1/2
- [A1] Obtain both stationary points
