In particular they decided to find out about differences in the quality of the urban environment and access to local services. The students selected six sites to do their fieldwork in different areas of the city. These are shown in Fig. 15 (Insert). The students decided to test the following hypotheses: Hypothesis 1: The quality of the urban environment improves as distance from the city centre increases. Hypothesis 2: Access to local services is better further away from the city centre.
