Prove by mathematical induction that, for z ≠ 1 and all positive integers n, 1 + z + z² + ... + zⁿ⁻¹ = (zⁿ - 1)/(z - 1)

  1. (i)Prove by mathematical induction that, for z ≠ 1 and all positive integers n, 1 + z + z² + ... + zⁿ⁻¹ = (zⁿ - 1)/(z - 1)[5]
  2. (ii)By letting z = ½(cos θ + i sin θ), use de Moivre's theorem to deduce that Σ∞ m=1 (½)ᵐ sin mθ = (2 sin θ)/(5 - 4 cos θ)[5]
