Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (May/June 2014). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [M1] Attempt to find f(4) or f(1) or division to a remainder condone one error
  2. [A1] 128 + 16a + 4b + 12 = 0 or better (16a + 4b = -140)
  3. [A1] 2 + a + b + 12 = –12 or better (a + b = −26)
  4. [M1] Solves linear equations in a and b
  5. [A1] a = -3, b = -23 both
