Mark scheme
Marking points from the official mark scheme (May/June 2025). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.
- [3] (a) 2x³ + 3x² - 17x - 30 final answer
- B2 for correct unsimplified expression or answer simplified to a 4-term expression of the correct form with three terms correct
- or B1 for one pair of brackets expanded with at least 3 terms out of 4 correct
- [4] (b) Correct sketch with values -2.5, -2 and 3 labelled at x-intercepts and -30 labelled at y-intercept
- B1 for positive cubic curve
- B2 for curve with three intercepts only with x -axis labelled at -2.5, –2 and 3
- or B1 for curve with two correctly labelled x - intercepts.
- B1 for a single intercept on y-axis labelled at -30 but not if line y = -30
- Max 3 marks if sketch incorrect
