Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (Oct/Nov 2016). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [2] (a)(i) Any two from:
  2. serial
  3. one bit sent at a time // bits sent sequentially
  4. over a single wire
  5. synchronous or asynchronous
  6. [2] (a)(ii) Any two from:
  7. parallel
  8. several bits / a byte sent at a time
  9. using many / multiple wires
  10. synchronous
  11. [3] (b) serial
  12. Any two from:
  13. serial data transmission more reliable over long distances
  14. less likely for the data to be skewed/out of synchronisation
  15. less interference as only a single wire
  16. it is a cheaper connection as only single wire needed // cheaper to set up
  17. a fast connection is not required as a printer is limited by its printing speed
