Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (Oct/Nov 2018). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [B1] From the AP: x - 4 = y - x
  2. [B1] From the GP: y/x = 18/y
  3. [M1] Simultaneous equations: y² - 9y - 36 = 0 or 2x² - 17x + 8 = 0
  4. [A1] x = 8, y = 12.
  5. [B1] AP 4th term = 16
  6. [M1] GP 4th term = 8 × (12/8)³
  7. [A1] = 27
