Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (May/June 2022). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [B1] State or imply non-modular inequality 2² (3x + a)² < (2x + 3a)², or corresponding quadratic equation, or pair of linear equations
  2. [M1] Solve 3-term quadratic, or solve two linear equations for x
  3. [A1] Obtain critical values x = 1/4 a and x = −5/8 a
  4. [A1] State final answer −5/8 a < x < 1/4 a or −0.625a < x < 0.25a
