Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (May/June 2022). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [M1] 2x + 2 = 5x^(1/2) leading to 2x - 5x^(1/2) + 2 = 0 or 4x² + 8x + 4 = 25x leading to 4x² - 17x + 4 = 0
  2. [A1] x = 1/4, x = 4
  3. [M1] Area = ∫(5x^(1/2) - (2x + 2))dx
  4. [DM1] Integration: [10/3 x^(3/2) - x² - 2x]
  5. [A1] Area = 45/16 or 2 13/16 or 2.8125
