Choose any two of the following passages from the Qur'an, and (i) يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فِرَاشًا وَالسَّمَاء بِنَاء وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاء مَاء فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ رِزْقًا لَكُمْ فَلَا تَجْعَلُوا لِلَّهِ أَندَادًا وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ (i) Sura 2.21-22 21. O people! Adore your Guardian-Lord, who created you and those who came before you, so that you may have the chance to learn righteousness; 22. Who has made the earth your couch, and the heavens your canopy; and sent down rain from the heavens; and by it brought forth fruits for your sustenance; then do not set up rivals to Allah, when you know. (ii) قُلْ أَعُودُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ، مَلِكِ النَّاسِ، إِلَهِ النَّاسِ، مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَ النَّاسِ (ii) Sura 114 1. Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind, 2. The King of mankind, 3. The God of mankind, 4. From the mischief of the whisperer who withdraws, 5. Who whispers into the hearts of mankind, 6. Among jinns and among mankind. (iii) إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ (iii) Sura 108 1. To you have We granted abundance. 2. So pray to your Lord and sacrifice. 3. For he who hates you, he will be cut off.

1. [Sura 2.21-22] The main theme is Allah's relationship with the created world.
2. [Sura 2.21-22] Creator: God is the creator of humankind so they should only worship Him.
3. [Sura 2.21-22] Worship: God, as a creator, is only worthy of worship.
4. [Sura 2.21-22] Piety: God's worship creates piety.
5. [Sura 2.21-22] Creation: He also created what is for the benefit of humankind (guidance, fertile earth, shade, and water from sky).
6. [Sura 2.21-22] Sustenance: God also provides sustenance to His creatures. He has made permanent arrangements and set up systems for that.
7. [Sura 2.21-22] Gratitude: People should be grateful to God for what He has created and provided.
8. [Sura 2.21-22] Shirk: Humankind should not commit the greatest sin of associating partners/rivals with God.
9. [Sura 2.21-22] Tawhid: He is the only creator and sustainer.
10. [Sura 114] The main theme is Allah's relationship with the created world.
11. [Sura 114] Sovereignty: Establishes Himself as master (Rabb), king (Malik) and true God (Ilah).
12. [Sura 114] Divine Protection: God instructs to seek divine protection against all evils and harms. He is a protector from invisible beings (jinn) and humankind.
13. [Sura 114] God's Help: Only He can help in times of need, in this case from (jinn) and humans. Seek help only from Him.
14. [Sura 114] Control: He created everything so controls everything, even mischief makers.
15. [Sura 114] Warning: It's a warning about those who whisper evil/bad ideas to humans, and then disappear and leave them on their own.
16. [Sura 108] The main theme is Allah's Messengers.
17. [Sura 108] Consolation: It was revealed as a consolation to the Prophet (pbuh) and foretold the destruction of his opponents.
18. [Sura 108] Prophet's help: God always helps, protects, consoles and rewards His prophets.
19. [Sura 108] God's gift: God has given the Prophet (pbuh) kawthar, which has various meanings.
20. [Sura 108] Kawthar: kawthar's most common meaning is a river in paradise, but also has the meaning of progeny, guidance in abundance, success and his followers.
21. [Sura 108] Worship: God commands His followers to pray to Him.
22. [Sura 108] Gratitude: To show his gratitude the Prophet (pbuh) in particular, and Muslims in general, are expected to worship God and display the spirit of sacrifice, determination and good character.
23. [Sura 2.21-22] The themes of these verses invite people to contemplate about God and nature.
24. [Sura 2.21-22] Humans must worship their creator.
25. [Sura 2.21-22] The natural world is a comfort for humankind, and so they should look after it.
26. [Sura 2.21-22] God provides the world for humankind so humans should be responsible for looking after their environment and not be wasteful.
27. [Sura 2.21-22] Gratefulness to God should also be displayed.
28. [Sura 2.21-22] Humans should acknowledge who their sustenance has come from and rely on God for everything.
29. [Sura 2.21-22] They should also abstain from setting rivals with God.
30. [Sura 114] God is the king so it is Him who people should seek refuge with.
31. [Sura 114] Through these verses Muslims get to know the kind of evils/mischief they have to be wary of, for example, invisible beings (jinn), humans or internal whisperings such as jealousy.
32. [Sura 114] They should be aware of what's happening to them so they can recognise the signs of mischief and temptations.
33. [Sura 114] It strengthens reliance on God.
34. [Sura 114] It creates trust in God's control, authority, and protection as well as awe for God's immense powers.
35. [Sura 114] Reciting this sura, along with the others (quls) is a source of protection.
36. [Sura 108] The teachings give an insight into the relationship between God and the Prophet (pbuh) has lessons for Muslims.
37. [Sura 108] Muslims today are that future generation of followers that was given to the Prophet (pbuh), and so this sura gives hope to people in times of need.
38. [Sura 108] Future hope is also given with the promise of the Kawthar in paradise.
39. [Sura 108] God always intervenes in times of difficulty so Muslims should always remember to look to Him for help and support.
40. [Sura 108] People should not feel disheartened and remain steadfast in times of difficulty, for example, during illness or oppression.
41. [Sura 108] Muslims should display a spirit of sacrifice and prayer, particularly when hard times befall.
42. [Sura 108] Even prophets were tested and faced hardships but remained steadfast so Muslims should not despair of God's mercy when facing hardships.
