Solve the following equations.
- (i)4 sin 2x + 5 cos2x = 0 for 0° ≤ x ≤ 180°[3]
- (ii)cot²y + 3 cosecy = 3 for 0° ≤ y ≤ 360°[5]
- (iii)cos (z + π/4) = -1/2 for 0 ≤ z < 2π radians, giving each answer as a multiple of π[4]
Mark scheme
Marking points from the official mark scheme (Oct/Nov 2015). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.
- [M1] (i) tan 2x = -5/4 For obtaining and using tan 2x = ±5/4 or ±4/5 resulting in 2x =
- [A1] (i) (2x=128.7, 308.7)
- [A1FT] (i) x = 64.3 awrt ; 154.3 awrt tanx = ... gets M0. their 64.3° + 90°
