Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme (May/June 2018). The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. [B1] uses cot θ = cos θ / sin θ oe or tan θ = sin θ / cos θ oe at some stage
  2. [B1] uses cos² θ + sin² θ = 1 oe
  3. [B1] for common denominator of sin θ oe either in a compound fraction or in two partial fractions OR for writing (1 – sin² θ) / sin θ as 1 / sin θ – sin² θ / sin θ oe
  4. [M1] sin θ = 1/4
