The curve with equation y = x^2 + 5x – 24 intersects the x-axis at the points A and B. Find the coordinates of A and B.

- M1 for setting y = 0, e.g. x^2 + 5x – 24 = 0
- M1 for a correct method to solve the quadratic equation (factorisation or quadratic formula), e.g. (x + 8)(x – 3) = 0 or x = (−5 ± sqrt(25 – 4(1)(-24)))/2
- A1 for (–8, 0) and (3, 0) oe (allow x = –8 and x = 3)
