Mark scheme
Marking points from the official mark scheme. The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.
- Question 25 (a)(i) The global sea level is predicted to rise (1).
- Question 25 (a)(ii) Any valid area, e.g. Arctic/North America/Australia/East Asia/Europe/North Atlantic. (1)
- Question 25 (b)(i) Marks will be awarded for explaining one environmental impact of sea level rise. One mark for impact and one for explanation. E.g. Coastal erosion (1) leading to the loss of beaches/coastline (1). (2)
- Question 25 (b)(ii) Marks will be awarded for explaining one social impact of sea level rise. One mark for impact and one for explanation. E.g. Displacement of people (1) leading to increased numbers of environmental refugees (1). (2)
- Question 25 (c) Award up to 6 marks for an evaluation of two strategies used to reduce the impacts of sea level rise in a named coastal area. A named coastal area must be included for full marks. Each strategy should have a statement, a description and evaluation. Level 0: No rewardable content. Level 1: (1–2 marks) Limited description of one or two strategies used to reduce the impacts of sea level rise. Little or no evaluation. Level 2: (3–4 marks) Description of one or two strategies used to reduce the impacts of sea level rise. Limited evaluation of the strategies. May not be linked to a named coastal area. Level 3: (5–6 marks) Detailed description of two strategies used to reduce the impacts of sea level rise. Clear evaluation of both strategies. Clearly linked to a named coastal area. (6)
