Mark scheme

Marking points from the official mark scheme. The mark or mark type is shown in brackets.

  1. M1 for raising the power of at least one term by 1 (e.g., x^3 -> x^4 or x^(-1/2) -> x^(1/2)).
  2. A1 for 2x^4/4 or -3x or 4x^(1/2)/(1/2) (or simplified form for any one term).
  3. A1 for all terms correctly integrated, but possibly unsimplified (e.g., x^4/2 - 3x + 8x^(1/2)).
  4. B1 for +C. (This mark is independent of other integration marks).
  5. A1 for x⁴/2 - 3x + 8√x + C (all terms correct and simplified).
